I Replaced Doomscrolling with Coding from My Couch

How I turned my phone addiction into productive coding time by building Kibbler.

January 11, 2026 - 3 min read

I used to burn hours doomscrolling on my phone. Instagram, X, mobile games - the usual suspects. Every evening on the couch, every morning in bed, every spare moment in between. It always left me feeling like I'd wasted time I couldn't get back.

When AI coding agents started taking off, something clicked. I was already glued to my phone anyway. What if I could redirect that habit into something actually productive?

So I built Kibbler - a mobile app that connects to Claude Code on your dev machine. Instead of scrolling through feeds, I could prompt an AI to write code, watch it work in real-time, and approve changes from wherever I happened to be.

Building it was messy

Race conditions were everywhere. Streaming responses, approval workflows, multiple sessions - they all collided in unexpected ways. Context would vanish after approvals. Messages routed to wrong sessions. The UI would show one thing while the server thought another.

But the real breakthrough came from dogfooding. I used Kibbler to build Kibbler - sitting on my couch, prompting Claude to write code, reviewing diffs on my phone, approving changes. Every rough edge became immediately obvious when I was the one suffering through it.

It actually worked

I still reach for my phone constantly. Old habits die hard. But now there's an option that doesn't leave me feeling empty afterward.

Waiting for coffee? Review a PR. Watching TV? Kick off a small feature. Can't sleep? Fix that bug that's been nagging you. Nature calls? Finish your thought there. 🚽

The time adds up. Those scattered 15-minute sessions actually move projects forward. It's not a replacement for focused deep work, but it's a productive way to fill the gaps.

Turns out the best cure for a bad habit is redirecting it into something useful.

Try it yourself

Right now Kibbler supports iPhones with JetBrains IDEs and VS Code. If it gets traction, I'll expand from there.

Check out the getting started guide if you want to give it a shot. Fair warning - you might start looking forward to those idle couch moments.
